"Conformity is the jailer of
freedom and the enemy of growth."
I was asked by Nicki and Natalie as to my background and how I conduct interviews.
Nicki and Natalie, I can understand your feelings after what happened, it was a bad way to find out about something so deeply personal, to be told the wrong ways of going about finding help.
I am not a medical person in any way, but do have the connections to pass people on who ask for initial help in finding contacts to help them thru their troubled stages of GID/TSism. I do have a one on one meeting to outline the type of help I can put them in touch with. I have also been told that I am "Very negative about TSism in my initial approach" That is because it is not my place to do other then tell people from my own experiences some, if not all of the problems that we can and do encounter.
I have access to a GP at our sexual health clinic and also to Psychiatrists, who we know, are understanding of our problems. Surgeons, well we only have 2 in Australia, but many choose to go to Thailand for SRS, with good results.
A little about me. I run Changeling Aspects (CA), a group for TS people! I am a lobbyist in the fight for our rights here and in NZ, where I have many friends. I am an activist and am currently working through problems that those of us born outside of Australia and New Zealand are encountering. I have put in submissions to the Human Rights Commissions (HRC) in both Australia and New Zealand (NZ) about these concerns and have had meetings with both. I await the final report from the NZ HRC in December 2007.
I am at present awaiting the outcome of a decision from our Queensland (QLD) Attorney-General as to if they will grant us a Gender Recognition Certificate or a Recognised Details Certificate in QLD, this has so far taken 4.5 years to get where we are. I have a meeting in November with the Premier's Office to discuss this situation as well. I also work with the Anti Discrimination Commission, am a board member of two other groups, one is the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities (QAHC) the other is Open Doors, which is for youngsters questioning their sexuality in the age range of 12 to 23.. I also write a lot and put it on our web site. It is usually in regard to items that are of interest to all in the Trans area, partners included.
I also lecture at Technical and Further Education (TAFE) and Universities, and find the time to serve on committees for the Health and Welfare of Trans people, and another for LGBTI ageing.
I was also instrumental in getting a way together for those born in UK but now residing elsewhere in the form of Case By Case Basis through the UK Department of Constitutional Affairs (DCA) and the Gender Recognition Panel. This was in some part due to help from Press for Change (PfC) in getting the inaugural idea up and running. That took 20 months of blood sweat and tears!
I am involved with problems caused when applying for an amended or renewed passports in both Australia and the UK. The last question that I posed, has been referred to the “Freedom of Information” (FOI) in Australia, as the Immigration Department cannot answer the question.
I have even pointed out to our Federal Attorney-General that our partners suffer far more in many respects than us, in the way they lose their rights if they stay married to a Trans person.
I do have some spare time and enjoy meeting new people and challenges, meeting with long term friends and hopefully new ones too.
I endeavour to research everything that I can and have it verified before printing or talking about it. I have very good friends who I also draw into discussions before any decisions are made, as we have others who are equally involved in the outcome of decisions and the welfare of CA. I hope that I do not make too many mistakes, as I will very quickly be held to task over them.
In between all of this, I lead a Normal life??? Looking after my home, shopping, and all the many items of every day living. I have just recently lost my Dog who was my companion for 12 years, and that has left an immense hole in my daily life.
I hope this gives some idea of what I am involved with.
Love and Peace,
